Wood Buffalo National Park of Canada is the country's largest national park and one of the largest in the world. It was established in 1922 to protect the last remaining herds of bison in northern Canada. Today, it protects an outstanding and representative example of Canada's Northern Boreal Plains.
Wander through a boulder field across the Grosbreak Lake and try a capture a photo of the bison herds wallowing in the dirt along the Pine Lake Road. If you're camping, you'll be able water meteors and northern lights which will be a wonder to see and experience!
Explore the park on foot with the many hiking trails, from short strolls to more long and scenic loops there's lots to discover. The park is also the world's largest Dark Sky Preserve, so stargazing must be on your agenda if you pay the park a visit!
There are swimming opportunities, beaches, bird watching, canoeing, boating, cycling and so many more outdoor experiences to be had.
Travel south on Highway 3 for 338 km. Turn left onto Highway 1, and go 103 km to Enterprise. Turn left onto Highway 2 and go 25 km. Turn right onto Highway 5 and go 264 km to Fort Smith.
