Caves and Mines
Central Deborah Gold Mine Bendigo
Where are we going today?
There is SO much Gold Rush history in Bendigo to learn about, it seems silly to read it in a book when you can actually experience it with your own eyes!
Central Deborah Gold Mine lets the whole family explore the hidden underground of a REAL gold mine! Yep, it actually operated in the 1900s when the gold rush boom happened.
The adventure begins when you descend to the depths of one of Australia's most historic cities (Bendigo, of course!) before you explore the mines with either the Mine Experience Tour (61m underground) or the Underground Adventure Tour (85m underground!).
Of course, if you are REALLY brave, then you can take on the country's DEEPEST underground mine - Nine Levels of Darkness - at a whopping 228m underground!
The Mine Experience Tour lets you walk in the footsteps of the miners. The family are guided through the web of underground tunnels, with a friendly guide right by your side to tell you all the fun facts!
The light on your cap will light your path as you discover how hard it really would have been to be a miner in the gold rush era! A treasure trove of vintage mining machinery, museum exhibits and gold panning await you when you've finished! This is a great open for all fitness levels, and perfect for kids over 3 years.
The Underground Adventure Tour lets you search for gold...with finders keepers! Here, you go to the 3rd level of the mine and with your "miners lunch" to keep you energised! Over 2.5 hours you will be mesmerised by the lure of gold - and you can see what a stronghold it had over people back then!
Then, the Nine Levels adventure is up to 4 hours for those with a sense of adventure! Don the miners outfit and you will really be put to work by your Shift Boss!
A unique and fascinating way for the family to learn all about the gold mining industry at Central Deborah Gold Mine. Incredible!

Money well spent. I went for the mine experience tour. Daryl is your perfect host and it is clear that there are 3 generations of mining history and expertise in his thorough and informative 75min tour of the mine 60m below ground. There are a bunch of other tours you can take - if you want to go hundreds of meters underground you need to be in a group and book in advance. Recommended to everyone - young, old, solo, couples and families.

We recently experienced the 2.5 hour mine tour. Our guide Zoe was fantastic and her knowledge was exemplary, on all matters of the mine. My husband and I can thoroughly recommend the tour, it was worth every cent. Having at first been a little apprehensive, our experience was brilliant and will long be remembered. Big thanks to Zoe on an excellent job. Looking forward to plucking the courage to do the level 9 tour in the future! Overall the staff were extremely helpful and exceptionally friendly.

absolutely amazing experience. I take guests there on the fantastic "Bendigo Ambassador pass" and every mine experience tour is a little bit different. A little dear but EXCELLENT value and it is run by a not-for profit trust so any profit goes into preserving the mine and trams. Fantastic friendly staff and a more real and informative experience than Sovereign Hill. Plus it has the deepest mine tour in AUSTRALIA and the 2nd deepest IN THE WORLD!!!

I was amazed at the polite and great customer service at the booking counter. The 75 minute mine tour is highly recommended.
