About Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center

Are you ready to explore over 800,000 gallons of one of the best aquariums and live animal habitats in the country? It's our family day out in Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center!

Here, hundreds of hands-on exhibits can be explored by the whole family, as well as the amazing National Geographic 3D Theater - where the world comes to life right before your eyes!

The Journey Of Water exhibit allows kids to explore the rivers to the Chesapeake Bay right into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, as they explore the aquatic animals and plants that are native to the state.

Kids can observe the beautiful loggerhead turtles in the Chesapeake Light Tower Aqurium exhibit, or watch in wonder as stingrays and shark navigate the Norfolk Canyon Aquarium exhibit!

Virginia Aquarium even let's kids explore various parts of the world, including the Malaysian Peat Swamp (which resembled Virginia millions of years ago!) and the Indonesian Volcanic Island which shows how Virginia looked when it was dominated by volcanic activity. History and geology lessons too!

Take a walk and enjoy the scenery in Owls Creek Path, a 10-minute walk that meanders through salt marsh and woodland preserve between the Aquarium's buildings, or climb the 30-foot observation tower to get a view of Owls Creek from tree-top level.

Kids can learn amazing facts about the oceans, including does a stingray really feel like wet bologna? What do a horseshoe crab's mouth and a toothbrush have in common? They can find out for themselves in the fun touch pools!

It's time to explore some of the most amazing underwater creatures on the planet, and you don't even need to leave Virginia to do so!
