There is something really special about getting out to nature, and what better way to explore (and environmentally friendly way!) the beautiful Virginia Beach area than to kayak!
Kayak Nature Tours offer a host of tours to pick from, that all leave from specific locations – and they will take you to some amazing areas!
The Blackwater River will take you past trees over 400 years old, in really cool, swampy terrain. First Landing State Park is where you might catch a glimpse of those beautiful pods of dolphins that might come up to play! Paddle round salt marshes and sand flats, and maybe see some nesting Bald Eagles!
Then you have the Dolphin Tour – where you go out on the water with the sole purpose of trying to spot those playful creatures!
Want to try and spot some bear and deer? Then the Lake Drummon tour might be for you! Right in the heart of the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, it’s one of only two natural lakes in Virginia, and at 20 feet above sea level it’s unique for the US east coast!
Most trips are about 2.5 hours long (that’s with about 1.5 – 2 hours of paddling!) and really great for beginners. You will be surprised at how easy kayaking can be! (Then you can book the longer trips!)
The half day trips are about 4 hours and include drinks and a snack, and the full day trips of 7 to 8 hours include drinks and a full lunch.
For the Dolphin tours, kids need to be 6 years or older (the water won’t be calm), but there are great flat-water trips perfect for kids as young as 3, where they can sit in the front seat of a double kayak.
And yes, you will get wet! Have fun!
