About this activity

Here's a fun fact! Did you know that the "Intrepid" is actually a National Historic Landmark? It is! And now you can learn all about it, and explore it, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York State!

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is solely dedicated to all things science, history and service when it comes to that famous, and important, aircraft carrier.

As you make your way around the museum you'll be face to face with original artifacts, interactive exhibits and even historic video footage, which will really bring the museum and the story to life.

The actual Intrepid was launched in 1943, and fought in WWII. It actually survived one torpedo strike and FIVE kamakaze attacks! After a stint in the Cold War AND Vietnam War, it served as a NASA recovery vessel. Now, it sits on the Hudson River where you can explore it as part of the museum - fascinating!

There are pretty incredible sights for kids, especially if they love plans and rockets! They can see the actual Space Shuttle Enterprise, which was a prototye orbiter than helped the USA's successful space shuttle program.

They can look at what life was like aboard the Submarine Growler, and even see close up the once "top secret" missile command center!

The museum also features the BA Concorde - used in the fastest Atlantic Ocean crossing - it only took under 3 hours. Pretty incredible!

With amazing exhibits and artifacts to really bring the history to life, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum will be like learning, without even realizing it!
