If you are familiar with that famous Kevin Costner movie "Field Of Dreams", then why not take a trip to where it was shot! The Field Of Dreams Movie Site in Iowa used to be two attractions, and has now blended into one - which is great for your family day out!
Back in 1988, Hollywood came along and built a baseball diamond for the set in what was essentially an obscure cornfield in Iowa. This because Field Of Dreams - and today, it's still around! It also happens to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iowa! (You go Kevin!)
Did you know over 50,000 people a year visit the site - pretty impressive! What's great about the site is you don't just come, take a photo and leave. It's more than that. It's a place where kids and their parents can come and play some baseball, throw come balls and hit some mitts. It's a bonding experience for the kids as much as it's a reminisce about a film favorite for the parents.
Great to go home and watch the film afterwards too!
During the summer months, on the first and third Sunday, a local team dress up as turn of the century players, and go out and play a game for whoever is there. Pretty fun stuff! In 2007, the two parts to the attraction merged which also meant regular hours!
It's a great place to pop in - there's a gift shop and lots of other film fans to talk to. It's not a full day out with the family, but it's certainly a stop as part of your amazing day.
Home run!
