About this activity

Pavensey Castle is a historical attraction and was the landing place of William the Conqueror's army in 1066. Discover the stories of royal prisoners and sieges and explore the past on your day out with the family!

Explore the castle's 16th century history, climb the battlements and take in the view across the Sussex countryside and clamber down into the dungeon and basement rooms. You'll find out lots along the way!

The castle is surrounded by beautiful open space, which is a great for a stroll! Get up close to the castle moat and admire the preserved architecture of the walls and battlements. You can even enjoy the exhibits, showcasing an impressive cannon and era pill boxes hidden amid the walls that are on display.

Pevensey is famously where William the Conqueror landed his army in 1066, before meeting King Harold Godwinson in battle at what is now the site of Battle Abbey. Battle Abbey and the famous 1066 battlefield is just a short drive from Pevensey Castle. Why not combine your trip and pay the Abbey a visit too?!

Visit the exhibition to discover stories of sieges and royal prisoners, see a recreated 1940s commander's office and pick up the phone to hear emergency messages. Children can crack the Pevensey Castle Code too which makes for a great educational adventure.
