Wawayanda State Park has a quiet charm about it, and it's a place where the whole family can go and immerse yourselves in outdoor adventure.
There are a host of activities that you can enjoy within the park, whether you love to fish, or boat, or hike and even swim.
Serious hikers will love the 20 miles of the Appalachian Trail that you can take on - it's quite a challenge, but you can do it! For other hikers who like to take things a bit more relaxed, there are over 60 miles of marked trails within the park for you to explore.
Kids - watch out for the wildlife, you never know what you might spot!
If you are pulled towards the water, then there is plenty to enjoy. Boaters will find a boat rental facility, as well as a launching ramp near the beach as well as the picnic areas.
There are canoes and rowboats for rent too, as well as paddleboats. Water activities galore!
Let's not forget about swimming! From Memorial Day to Labor Day Wawayanda State Park have lifeguards on duty, so you can safely swim within the lake. And yes - there is a beach!
There are so many great landscapes within Wawayanda State Park too, so kids can really have a diverse experience. There are forest communities, with swamp hardwood and chestnut oak. There are habitats perfect for blue heron and barred owl, and if you head to the Hemlock Ravine Natural Area, at an elevation increase of 300ft, you'll get that shady break!
Think a park is just for summer? Think again! Wawayanda State Park is 1,140ft above sea level, which means during winter there is snow! Cross-country skiing, ice-skating, snowmobiling and ice fishing are all waiting for you to enjoy them during the colder months.
Nature has never been so much fun, and this New Jersey park is waiting!
Take Route 23 north to Union Valley Road. Follow Union Valley Road about 6 miles to stop sign. From Stop sign, go to second traffic light. Turn left, travel to fork in road (about 2 miles) go left about 1/2 mile to Warwick Turnpike. Turn left. The park entrance is four miles on the left.

They have a carry in/carry out policy, so help them keep the park clean and take out any trash with you. They provide bags throughout the site!
There are picnic areas long the north side of the lake. You can bring your own grill, subject to approval. No wood fires.
If you want to extend your trip, there is camping permitting in the park too! Make sure you book ahead, and pets aren't permitted overnight
The park have a number of historical and natural interpretive programs seasonally, so just speak to the park office for a schedule!
Make sure you take plenty of water and healthy snacks!
