About Viking Lake State Park

Viking Lake State Park is 1,000 acres of outdoor fun for the whole family, so why wait!

If you love the peace of nature, or the adventure of exploring, or just enjoying some classic family park fun, then you might want to head to this Iowa favorite.

Set on Viking Lake, you can take a dip and enjoy some swimming, or take up a spot of fishing & boating - or explore the famous nature trails!

Viking Lake State Park features trails totaling six miles that provide families with an excellent look at the park's natural features - so grab those walking shoes!

The Bur Oak Nature Trail features an informative booklet that provides insight on the trees and plants you see around you, so kids can learn at the same time. The one mile trail takes abut one hour to walk, so for a leisurely stroll it's ideal!

Many of the park's hills and valleys were once campsites of Native American tribes and artifacts were uncovered when the dam was being constructed, so there is some history in there too for the kids!

In winter, snowmobiles may be operated on designated trails so it really is year round fun.

If you want to extend your time in the park, there are campgrounds there too for you.

Amazing outdoor fun in Iowa - what adventures will you get up to next!?
