About Sedgwick County Zoo

There are SO many incredible species of wildlife on our planet, and to visit them all would be quite a task! Lucky for you, Sedgwick County Zoo has brought over 400 species right to Wichita, so you don't need to even get on a plane to travel through Africa, Asia, and beyond!

Sedgwick County zoo is home to over 3,000 individual animals, and they are just waiting to make new friends with you! As the kids travel through the various exhibits, they will not only get to come face to face with some of their favorites, but they can also learn about them, and importantly, the conservation of them - something that is a key part of the zoos mission.

At Sedgwick County Zoo, kids can go on a voyage of discovery and adventure. Every step they will uncover something new and amazing, so why don't we explore some of the animals they can meet!

Why not start close to home, at the North America exhibit? Here, the grizzly bears can be splashing in the pool, or the bison might be roaming in their herds. Keep an eye out for the sly Mexican wolf, and make sure you stop to watch those playful river otters have a great time!

Fancy going down under next, to Australia? Take a walk about through the exhibit that will introduce you to the cassowary, or spot those beautifully colorful birds such as the cockatoo. Trekking through the forests of Asia can be next on the list, with several species of birds, as well as those popular tapirs - have you ever seen one in person? They are quite a treat!

Here, the Amur tigers really help kids understand the concept of conservation, and they can see in person the reason why we should care for animals, including the endangered red pandas and brow-antlered deer.

Make sure you take a trip through the tropics, the penguins, and South American on your way to the children's farm for some extra hands-on fun!

It's an animal-tastic family day out in Kansas at the Sedgwick County Zoo, so let's get WILD and go explore the animals of the world!
