Choo choo, it's time to board the historic train for your locomotive ride, because we're at the North Alabama Railroad Museum!
Just east of Huntsville, this family friendly railroad museum has such a love of trains, they were created to preserve the rich railroad history, so visitors just like you can learn all about it!
You can enjoy the museum via a FREE self-guided tour, and make sure you pick up the tour sheets and museum brochures to help you navigate your way around. There are also friendly volunteers on hand to help with any questions yo may have!
Take the full tour for the best experience, where you can be taken through a variety of train cars and learn the grand history of the Alabama railroad.
Then, don't miss your chance to ride on the historic Mercury & Chase train yourself! It's best to book these in advance, and not only do they often sell out, but then you can ensure you are there for the departure time.
The total length of the line is 10 miles, and the trip lasts a little over an hour. The shorter trips last around 35 to 45 minutes.
Free admission for museum, but donations welcome! Train rides from $15
Same as adult, but train rides from $10 (Under 12 years)
They recommend that riders make reservations in advance for all train rides, especially if you are coming from a far distance. Riders should always make reservations well in advance for the Santa Train and North Star Limited as these rides sell out very early.
Give them a call to arrange groups as they can open via appointment outside of regular hours if needed
The souvenir shop is located in car 1000 and when car 1000 is not on the train (for example the Santa Train rides) it will be parked across the tracks from the Chase Depot and may be visited before or after a train ride.
Give them a call to ask about the accessibility of the museum and the trains!
