Founded in 1907, the Idaho State Museum is the states's largest and most visited museum. It has evolved from a simple collection of curios and relics sitting on shelves to the first museum in Idaho to be accredited by the American Association of Museums.

The collections and exhibitions within the museum, tell how the state's unique landscapes have shaped, and continue to shape, the region.

Other exhibits showcase the profound relationship between Idaho's people and it's land, and tell the story of what it means to live in this great state.

The museum features a gallery exploring Idaho's geologic origins, as well as the stories of Idaho's give federally recognized tribes, and the Stories from Idaho is an exhibit on individuals that have made an impact on Idaho's history! Can you see yourselves as part of the story?

For those kids in the family, they will enjoy the hands-on learning that you can find within the Idaho State Museum. The Boomtown Gallery is a space designed especially for children to interact and play whilst learning, and the History Lab is where you can learn about history by practicing it yourselves!
