About Benares Historic House

Benares Historic House has more than 160 years of history, this exquisite estate was home to four generations of the Harris and Sayers families. Feel the warmth and pride of workmanship in this home which has been restored to its quiet elegance of the early 20th century.

The house is a Georgia-style estate with more than 165 years of history! It features an interpretive gallery, rotating exhibitions and displays and the original family possessions which span for four generations. There are a variety of theme tours available, including Cedar Park and Cherry Hill and Family Stories of Benares. Tours are available on the hour between 12pm and 3pm and it's advised you book to ensure you have a space on one.

More than 95% of the artifacts in the house are original to the Harris family and the home. Most of the contents were donated by the three great grandchildren of Captain Harris, which makes it incredible unique! It was resorted and fully furnished with the items and opened in 1995.

The Visitor Centre is where you'll find the gallery and the opportunity to learn more about the history and it's original residents.
