Founded by German immigrant Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg in 1857, the ranch began with a simple log cabin and expanded into a vast 20,000-acre empire by the time of Dangberg's passing in 1904. His son, H. F. Dangberg Jr., further grew the ranch to an impressive 48,000 acres.
Today, more than five acres of the original ranch are owned by Douglas County and managed by Nevada State Parks, allowing families to visit and learn about its rich past. The park offers a blend of historical intrigue and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for a family day out. Guided tours of the historic buildings are available Wednesday through Sunday and offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Dangberg family. What should visitors know before arriving at the park? If the gate is shut, that’s just because there are cattle in the pasture. Just open it, park inside the fence, and leave the gate how you found it. The access road crosses private land, so parking along the road is not permitted.

Are there any restricted areas within the park? The 1875 barn, corral, deteriorating brick slaughterhouse (danger!) and modern residence are on private land. Please do not trespass there.
