The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is one of Carson Valley's first and largest ranches. It's rich with history, it's a beautiful park experience for the family, and it's got your name all over it! Here's a little bit of history to get you started. The ranch was home to German immigrant Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg who founded the site in 1857. He was a local businessman, rancher and politician, and Dangberg started his ranch with just a log cabin.
At the time of his death in 1904, he had created a 20,000 acre ranching empire that his son, H F Dangberg Jr later grew to 48,000 acres. That's pretty impressive!
More than five acres of the ranch are now owned by Douglas County and managed by Nevada State Parks. This means families just like yours can visit, and learn all about the fascinating history it holds.
The park is open as long as there aren't private functions, but the historic buildings are typically open Wednesday to Sunday when staff are around. It's during these times you'll find the best way to see the historic buildings, as guided tours are conducted. These are available by reservation.
You can also enjoy activities that Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park put on from May to December.
If you want to just enjoy the park space, it's undeveloped but there are toilets and picnic tables.
History and park fun all rolled into one in this very special Nevada landmark!
