About Wheaton Regional Park and Nature Center

If you want to have a REALLY fun park experience, filled with history, trains, horses, and lots of family fun, then head on to Maryland's Wheaton Regional Park, where all those things are waiting for you!

There are a host of fun activities for the whole family across it's 536 acres, so let's get exploring!

The Shorefield Area has SO many play spaces for the kids! The family can bike, hike, or even take to the trails on horseback. Then, the shores of Pine Lake are perfect for fishing, relaxing, or even a family picnic!

Kids will LOVE the adventure playground, with endless climbing fun, giant slides to zip and zoom down, swings to make kids laugh, and even a sand castle!

Choo Choo! All aboard, as the 1863 CP Huntington replica engine train is ready to depart for a scenic tour through the pretty meadows and parklands. Make sure you take a ride on the 1915 carousel once you are finished - it's a great way for kids to be a part of history!

There is so much learning to do at Wheaton Regional Park, so check out the hands-on appreciation activities, as well as the Brookside Nature Center.

Here, there are quality programs for the whole family, no matter what ages. There are live mammal and reptile displays (yes, LIVE!) for those budding naturalists, or you can enjoy a self-guided tour on the trails, with interpretive boardwalks and areas to view that really special wildlife. 

With outdoor spots and even an ice skating arena, it's no wonder Wheaton Regional Park is THE place to head to in Wheaton with the family for that outdoor adventure!

There are picnic areas provided so you can take your own tasty family lunch and enjoy it under the sun!

Any top tips when visiting?

If the kids are after a particular activity be sure to check ahead which company within the park is operating on the day you want to visit - especially the horse-riding!

Does Wheaton Regional Park and Nature Center have healthy eating or Vegan options?

Make sure you take plenty of bottled water!

The Brookside Nature Center is open 9am - 5pm Tues - Sat, and 1pm - 5pm Sundays. It's closed on Mondays.
