A visit to Union Station means a visit to an architectural masterpiece and a piece of Kansas City's living history - this is a place where you can find adventure, learning, and see one of the most iconic buildings in the city!
Union Station was built back in 1914, spanning 850,000 sq ft and originally featured 900 rooms, and in her prime the station accommodation hundreds of thousands of passengers each year.
Did you know that during WWII, an estimated one million people (many soldiers) passed through? In fact, Union Station even had restaurants, barber shop, cigar store, railroad offices, and the largest Railway Express Building in the nation!
Today, you can visit Union Station for FREE, and see this amazing part of Kansas City history come to life all around you.
Within the station you can find a permanent railway exhibit called the KC Railway Experience, as well as exhibit space for traveling exhibits produced by the Smithsonian - all amazing ways for children and adults alike to learn all about the rich history (in the very place it all happened!)
Also within the Union Station complex is Science City , as well as a Planetarium, so there is SO much more to explore and learn from that just the history of the station, so let's depart for that railroad-tastic family day out in Kansas City, and have FUN!
