About Pocahontas State Park

If it's a lovely day outside, why would you ever stay inside! A great excuse to get out, is Pocahontas State Park! It's only 20 miles from Richmond, and offers families an amazing range of activities to certainly fill those family days out!

If it's the water you love, then why not get out and enjoy some boating? During summer, you have a number of rentals open and ready to get you out onto the 200 acre Swift Lake. Grab a rowboat, or a kayak, even a paddleboat or a canoe. They are great activities to just allow you to take your time, and spend some time as a family!

If it's getting out on your feet that keeps you happy, then why not get out there along the hiking trails and spend some time with nature? You might even spot some wildlife! There are over 80 miles of trails across the whopping (nearly) 8,000 acres. If you would rather grab a bike or even a horse, then the trails are perfect for those too!

Parents, you will love the park too, because of the environmental education programs that the kids can take part in, so they can learn whilst they have fun!

But wouldn't it be great summer without an aquatic center to cool down in! There are seasonal water-based activities that are perfect for all ages. There is a fun fountain wet deck, a kiddie pool, and two leisure pools. Kids - there are two tubular water slides!

We're not done yet! Did we even mention the fishing? What a great way to relax for the day! There are two fishing lakes with fish - from catfish, bluegrill, crappie...get those rods out and enjoy it!

Pocahontas State Park is a great day out in Virginia nature, that will give you so many activity options you might have to make it two days! (Good thing there is camping too!)
