There are always a number of exhibitions on throughout the museum. These rotate, so make sure you keep an eye on what’s on, and what’s coming up so you don’t miss out. It also means that you can keep going back and seeing something new!
There are also permanent exhibitions which take you through a collection of California inspired works. The Gallery of California Art is a living and breathing space filled with energy and ideas on the states land, people and creativity.
The Gallery of California History is always evolving, and focuses on the profound cultural impact of immigration on the state. There are over 2000 artifacts to check out in this exhibition alone!
There are even artifacts that date back to the gold rush!
Then finally at the Oakland Museum of California, the Gallery of California Natural Sciences showcase the states climate, habitats, ecosystems, wildlife and geology, with a focus on Oakland.
Here there are over 100,000 research specimens, including birds and mammals, reptiles and amphibians!
Think museums aren’t family friendly? Think again! This museum offers free entry for those under 18 (and half price admission for adults!) where you can enjoy food trucks and music during these family nights!
