Kansas has SO much history, so why not visit a place where the whole family can learn all about the fascinating people and events that shaped this great state. Yes, we're talking about the Kansas Museum of History!
This award-winning museum tells the story of the people of Kansas, and is filled with fascinating stories and artifacts that kids can see up close, which really bring the history to life.
Planes, trains, automobiles are all part of the story! Kids can see Santa Fe's oldest surviving locomotive from all the way back in 1880, and even the plane that achieved the first successful flight, built back in 1911!
There are displays all about American Indians, as well as homesteaders and cowboys, giving kids a real insight into what life was like over a century ago, and then some!
Kids can be inspired as they learn about innovators, and marvel at stories of aviators. They can learn all about the Civil War, as well as the Oregon Trail and the Santa Fe Trail.
The Kansas Museum of History also features a hands-on gallery called Discovery Place which is geared towards kids up until the age of 9 years. It's the perfect place to inspire imagination!
Kids can also hop aboard a locomotive and passenger car, dress up like a cowboy, cook on a wood stove, arrange furniture in a doll house and even put on a puppet play! Did you ever expect that sort of hands-on fun from a museum?
Then why not take a break and head out on to the beautiful 2 and a half mile interpreted trail.
A fascinating day out for the family at the Kansas Museum of History. You might just be amazed at what you uncover!
