About Kaleideum

Formerly SciWorks, Kaleideum North offers over 25,000 sq ft of science FUN for those curious and inquisitive kids! Not only that, there is a 17 acre Science and Environmental Park to enjoy too!

Are you ready to explore the hands-on exhibits that makes learning a great experience?

Kids can learn about the fascinating world of physics in PhysicsWorks, and practice the 'catch and release' method of fishing in the N.C. Mountains to Sea gallery. 

Ever played the game "Operation"? There's a giant one in HealthWorks - where you'll learn about human biology and health. Maybe those musical kids will want to tap out a tune on the giant "Walk-On Piano!" 

Love animals? Great! Kids can see live animals of North and South America up close in the BioWorks area. And, in their travelling exhibit gallery, exhibits change every few months so there can be something new for you to enjoy too!

They often have storybook times too, so keep an eye out for any special programs and events that they offer!

If all THAT fun wasn't enough, kids can also view the night sky in the Planetarium, attend special programs, enjoy a picnic in the outdoor parks, take a walk on the nature trails AND visit the gardens!

Keep an eye out for the wildlife too! There are butterflies, hummingbirds, herbs, wildflowers, and even animals in their habitats!

At Kaleideum North, there are interactive, hands-on special exhibits and programs for all ages to enjoy, so let's get ENJOYING!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at Kaleideum?

There are several restaurants within a 1 mile radius of SciWorks - fast food and also family 'sit down' restaurants.

Any top tips when visiting?

The Outdoor Park opens at 10 am Monday-Saturday and at 1 pm on Sunday, and closes 30 minutes before Museum.

Does Kaleideum have a gift shop?

Visit the science gift shop featuring hundreds of fun and educational items to enhance your museum experience. You’ll find something wonderful for every budget and every age! Teachers! Receive a 10 percent discount on shop items that can be used in classroom instruction!

Teachers corner

Kaleideum North offers a wide variety of educational programs that will fascinate your students with exciting hands-on activities that correspond with North Carolina Essential Standards for Science. It's a great day out of learning!
