About this activity

The Crazy Mountain Museum is a historical museum featuring exhibits that reflect the history of Sweet Grass County and the surrounding area, with an aim to excite and involve families of all ages and background to preserve the region's heritage!

The museum features exhibits that offer a historical look at Sweet Grass County, covering a range of themes from archaeological and geological finds, to information about early settlers and their families.

A visit to "Cobblestone City" will transport you back through the history book, with a diorama featuring a miniature recreation of the town in Big Timber just as it was all the way back in 1907! There was a big fire in the town in 1908, so you really are looking into a lost time, with 1/3 of the town being destroyed.

Kids always love visiting the one room schoolhouse (kids, that's how schools were at the turn of the century, pretty different to your life now we bet!), as well as the tipi.

The history continues outdoors with the Lewis and Clark garden, featuring native Montana plants that Clark actually named in his journals during his 1806 expedition.

There are so many more great permanent exhibits, plus rotating exhibits for something new with every visit, so why not step back in time and learn all about the rich history of the region at Crazy Mountain Museum?

Kids, the history lesson is about to begin!
