About this activity

The Alaska Botanical Garden is nature at its finest, and you have a front row seat to explore this amazing Anchorage destination!

The mission of the Alaska Botanical Garden is to showcase the beauty of Alaska's natural regions through education, science, and recreation using sustainable as well as organic practices.  This means not only will the experience give you a wondreful day out surrounded by nature, but it will also ensure an invaluable education for kids!

There are a number of different gardens within the ABG which you can explore, each one highlighting something different and unique. Lile's Garden is a peaceful and serene garden, and you also have the Lower Perennial Garden designed to demonstrate perennials hardy to Southcentral Alaska.

The Herb Garden is a haven of botanical delights, and kids can even learn what herbs are medicinal and how nature can help the human body, and you also have the amazing Rock Garden where optimal conditions allow over 350 species of specialized alpine plants to thrive. You can spot specimens from Alaska, Scandinavia, China, and even the Himalayas!

These are just SOME of the amazing gardens, so you'll have to visit the Alaska Botanical Garden in person to discover the rest!

If you love to get out and explore, the Alaska Botanical Garden is also a wonderful place to hike on the woodland trails. They have a 1.1 mile Lowenfels Family Nature Trail which takes you on a walk through spruce and birch forest, and right down to the north fork of Campbell Creek. You can sneak a peak at the Chugach Mountain, PLUS you may even glimpse a moose or bear! Keep those eyes peeled!

With garden art, events and even programs, there is so much to be enjoyed at this Anchorage gem.
