There is something really lovely about spending the day out with your family in nature, at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens give you the perfect excuse to do just that! Don't think gardens are just a summer activity either - this one is beautiful no matter what time of year! These Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens have a huge collection of amazing plant species - and some of them historic too! Did you know that many of the trees actually date back to the nineteenth century?
It's not just the plants that have a history, but the site itself. Before the Europeans settled in the area, there were actually local Aboriginal tribes that used the site, and there are still traces of their lives there to this day! You might even come across two walls which were actually built by convicts too.
Then of course, there is the garden itself! Not only are there beautiful parklands and trees to really explore, but there are specialised gardens and collections which can really give you an insight into some beautiful species.
Kids will love the colours in the Japanese garden, or perhaps they want to see the detail in the Chinese collection. The Lily Pond is always a favourite too, and the pond itself was formed all the way back in 1840!
What is always a popular area for families, too, is the Tasmanian Community Food Garden. It's often used on television food shows, and it's a great way for kids to really learn where their food comes from. (And no - not the supermarket!)
Enjoy your relaxing and educational day out in Tasmanian nature!
