Living in Australia, we ALL know how important wool is! It keeps us warm, we can wear it, and we use it nearly everyday! So, in Geelong, it makes sense to have the National Wool Museum....a fascinating museum that can teach you all about the 200 year old history that the country has with wool!
Did you know that sheep arrived with the First Fleet all the way back in 1788? (Just one of the facts that you can learn when you visit the museum!)
And since then, the wool industry has completely dominated the Australian economy, the agriculture and even their reputation.
Sheep farming began in Geelong in 1835, as well as one of the first woollen mills opened up in 1868. So it makes sense they would have the National Wool Museum!
The museum always has exhibition on that can teach the family all about the various aspects of the country. They even have exhibitions on our planet, dinosaurs, and skeletons - you didn't expect that at the National Wool Museum did you!?
The collection itself has over 7,500 objects, that range from photographs, sketches, work books, that all tell you stories of the faces and names behind this amazing industry!
A fascinating experience on a topic you might never have thought to spend a day immersed in...but you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find out!
Don't worry...they won't pull the wool over your eyes....! (See what we did there?!)
Have fun kids!
