If you head just south of Darwin and you will find a stunning destination, filled with tropical waterfalls and crisp swimming holes. It's outdoor adventure ready and waiting for you, and it's called Litchfield National Park.
This beautiful NT national park features numerous waterfalls which cascade from a sandstone plateau also known as the Tabletop Range. The park also features monsoon rainforests and plenty of historical sites that offer educational experiences for the kids too.
Don't miss seeing the spectacular magnetic termite mounds too. They are a popular excursion destination and when you visit, you will see why!
The town of Batchelor is best known as a gateway to the incredible Litchfield National Park, which also features attractions such as Coomalie Cultural Centre.
Plus: picture yourself camping out and taking part in the small-scale mining activities at the turn of last century when you visit the old Bamboo Creek Tin Mine ruins. Until the early 1950s, the park was site of several tin and copper mines and relics of this mining era can be seen at Bamboo Creek Tin Mine. The wide variety of remains which survive are in good condition.
Enjoyable walks leave from most popular sites. Signs in the carparks and along the tracks will show you the way. The walks vary between short strolls and walks of 1 km to 3 km.
This Park is spectacular at any time, though most 4WD tracks are closed during the wet season. Some swimming areas such as Wangi Falls, become unsafe after heavy rain and are closed for swimming but kiosk and picnic facilities remain open.
Local adventure tours and safaris operate in this area too, so whether you want one day experiences, or 3 day adventures, the great outdoors is waiting for YOU!
