T-Rex, Triceratops, Pterodactyl...Kronosaurus? Bet you haven't heard of that one!
Kronosaurus Korner isn't just about those wonderful sea creatures called the Kronosaurus that swam in our oceans millions of years ago. It's a fascinating and fun fossil centre for kids which offer self guided tours around their workshops, theatres, and fossil hunting sites!
They are actually an operational laboratory that looks at the local fossils from the Cretaceous Inland Sea which actually covered Queensland a whopping 120 million years ago! Richmond is the centre of where the sea was, so the centre is filled with all the animals that lived and died in that sea. It's pretty amazing!
The Kronosaurus Korners Visitor Information Centre offers kids interesting information on the Richmond area, as well as the surrounding areas. Kids will also love the scale replicas of the Kronosauraus and the rare Minmi (What kind of creature do you think that would have been!)
If kids get the urge to get out and imagine being an adventurous archaeologist, just head 12km north of the area (easily accessible by all vehicles) to the fossicking sites! They are FREE and you don't need any digging tools! Some people go without anything and discover some incredible things! Fish bones, scales, shells, and even sharks teeth. You can even take your discoveries back to Kronosaurus Korner for identification - some families have made some pretty amazing ones!
Get your Indiana Jones hat on and step back in time to a place where these giant creature roamed the earth and swam in our seas! Can you imagine being around during that time? And if you can - would you want to meet these giants in person!? We don't think we would!
