Take a step back in time at the Hill End Historic Site! Kids - can you imagine what it would have been like in the roaring early days of the gold rush!? Can you just imagine! The smells, the sounds, the hardships?
Here, you can explore this very cool historic town on a self-guided tour, just make sure you start at the Hill End Visitor Centre and museum. In the town, you will find amazing street-scapes and buildings that have changed very little since the village's 1870's gold mining days!
Make sure you visit Craigmoor House for a really fascinating peek into the past. Want to find gold like they did back in the day? Then best try your luck gold panning at the Fossicking Ground! You never know what you might find!
Experience the interesting and often tough subterranean world of those colonial gold miners who used to call this area their home, by being part of the Bald Hill Tourist Mine.
The site is so interesting it's worth staying a couple of days if you have it. There are so many layers of history to uncover. The site really is remarkable. There are two campgrounds or you can stay in the heritage accommodation in town.
If there are artists in the family, there is a thriving community and artists retreat.
If it seems all a bit overwhelming and you're not quite sure where to start, the Hill End Visitor Centre staff are there to help you with any questions you have, and can get you started with maps, brochures, and answers.
Make sure you visit the museum too - there is a captivating collection of goldfield artefacts and photos, and fascinating audiovisual displays which will really showcase what it would have been like back in this incredible time of Australia's history!
