Just because you might be in a city, doesn't mean there is incredible natural wonders and nature to experience close by. We mean, REALLY close by.
Cataract Gorge is only a 15 minute walk from the city centre. That's right - 15 minute WALK! Amazing!
Cataract Gorge is Launceston's own little piece of wilderness and so much more than just a park. Grab those walking shoes and get out onto the many walking and hiking trails.
Feeling the heat? Cool down in their swimming pool, so don't forget your swimmers! (And of course, hat and sunscreen!)
Want to see the beautiful gardens from above? Take a ride on the longest single span chairlift...wait for it...in the WORLD! Pretty impressive!
The chairlift spans across 457 metres. One terminal building is at the First Basin, and the trip ends at the Cliff Grounds side. Parents, don't worry. It was designed with complete safety in mind, and seats all come with a safety bar. The chairlifts move at a slow speed too, so all ages will love the relaxing experience. It also gives you time to frame up that perfect photo!
While the First Basin on the southern side has the swimming pool, if you want a bit more shade then head to the northern side, which is called the Cliff Grounds. Here a beautiful Victorian garden has been created with exotic plants and ferns. There are rolling lawns, a rotunda, as well as a fun chairlift across the river.
If you are in need of some refreshments, they have a restaurant and a pub (with a view of course!) As you sip on your refreshing drinks you might spot the wallabies peeking their heads out at dusk, or the colourful peacocks in the trees!
Cataract Gorge is really a little bit of urban paradise, and a great nature based escape for your family day out!
