Ever heard the story of Captain Cook, and his famous ship that travelled around the world and finally made it to Australia?
Well, the Australian National Maritime Museum is THE place in the country to take yourselves back into history, and discover the world of the ocean and all those navigated through it.
Australia has a HUGE history with the sea - and still does! (Plus it's super fun to swim in!)
This museum captures all aspects of this important history with fun and fascinating exhibitions, artefacts, activities - AND you even get to board ships and see what it really was like out on the water!
There is an impressive full-scale of Captain Cook's ship where kids can just imagine being on the seas with him, discovering new lands! How exciting! (Do you know what it was called?)
Delve into the history of all who arrived on the countries shores in the 18th century, right up to the present day. What kind of new life did you think they were expecting?
The museum also look into Indigenous Australia's strong connections with the sea, and the country's inland waterways. You even get to look behind the scenes of naval traditions! Learn the stories that have defined the country.
There are ALWAYS fun exhibitions and activities on. The exhibitions are divided into permanent, and temporary, so there will always be something new to see. The activities are perfect for every sized sailor! They have age-based programs like Mini Marines for kids under 5, Kids on Deck for those little sailors 5 to 12, and workshops for those older 8 to 14 years old.
They even have pirate workshops!
Discover the sailor in you! Ahoy Captain!
