Goannas, lizards, snakes...what kid wouldn't want to spend the day with these wonderful and fascinating creatures!
The Alice Springs Reptile Centre has, impressively, the largest reptile collection in Central Australia!
They have over 100 reptiles which are made up from over 50 different species, and are exhibited indoors and outdoors so you can enjoy them no matter what the weather! They are also housed in naturally landscaped surroundings, so they will feel like they are out in the wild, which ensures they stay happy!
Thorny Devil and Frill-neck Lizards are among the lizards that are displayed as well as Terry. Sorry, we didn't mention Terry the Saltwater Crocodile! Terry's exhibit also features an underwater viewing area so you can really see him up close as he goes about his day. (He doesn't seem so scary when you know his name is Terry - you'll be fine!)
The Gecko Cave is a great place to start your visit at the Alice Springs Reptile Center. There are many species of gecko on display that you would really never see in the wild. Great way for kids to learn about their habitats and behaviours!
The daily shows are great for kids to really learn about these incredible critters. Daily at 11am, 1pm and 3:30pm, the sessions include informative and fun talks on lizards and pythons. Afterwards, they also offer supervised handling sessions! Fancy patting one? Of course you do!
So, if you have any creature loving members of your family, head on down to the Alice Springs Reptile Centre and see (and pat!) them in person. They will be happy to see you, especially Terry!
