The Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary is a wonderful destination for families to visit, only 20 minutes from the city.
This beautiful marine park is home to about 30 resident bottlenose dolphins, with another 400 transient dolphins that visit from time to time! These dolphins are actually wild dolphins which visit to feed, play, socialise and even nurse their calves.
What a beautiful thing to witness!
Inside the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary kids will also be able to experience a 10,000 year-old mangrove forest, plus other natural wonders such as seagrass, saltmarsh, tidal flats and even tidal creeks, all of which offer habitat and food for these beautiful creatures.
The Sanctuary itself is actually located within South Australia’s largest port, which also features a number of Aboriginal and European cultural and historical places that are worth exploring too.
You will also find that the area is a popular bird watching site, and is also the location of the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary.
Other wildlife you might even spot during your time at the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary include sting rays, long nosed fur seals and even endangered Australian sea lions.
So why not head out and enjoy the remarkable wonders of nature, and try your hand at dolphin and bird watching, and even get out on the water for some kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing?
