This is a Zen Oasis in the middle of Staten Island. Who knew it was there! Botantical Gardens, Chinese Gardens, Staten Island Musean, Childrens Museam (which your kids will not want to leave) and more. Take the time to notice each type of tree. They are planted purposefully and each have a name of what they are. I saw one that was just stunning.

I did not notice the pond until I was leaving but had to stop, it had turtles and two type of strange long legged birds. I felt sorry for the birds because they did not seem to have family with them, and...Read More

Visited this site recently and the walk through was very enjoyable. I've no doubt when the season becomes warmer, though, Snug Harbor will be even more spectacular.

The building interiors reminded me of how much craftsmanship has deteriorated in recent times and although the center is being rehabilitated at this time there's still much to see and enjoy.

A fascinating collection of old buildings, many of which are open to the public. Today, I saw the collection of maritime art by John Noble and others. I will be back another day to see other exhibits.

I did not notice the pond until I was leaving but had to stop, it had turtles and two type of strange long legged birds. I felt sorry for the birds because they did not seem to have family with them, and I wondered how they would breed and flourish.

I brought a picnic basket (yes a real one) and glad I did because I did not see any food service on site, which fits the atmopshere of being far away from the commercialization of NYC over priced food cards and restaurants. Go, Go! On a nice sunny day, bring comfortable shoes and camera and take your time to relax.

The grounds needs some up keep in areas, and I was surprised there were not more people there, but glad there weren't.

I ASKED HIM WHERE WAS THE VISITORS CENTER HE REPLY WITH THE SAME STUPID SMILE IN HIS FACE ,I DONT KNOW.THIS AREA HAS NO VIDEO SURVEILLANCE AT ALL.. I THINK SNUG HARBOR DIRECTORS CHECK INTO THIS MATTER AND THE SECURITY CAMERAS,AND TRAIN AND GIVE A TOUR TO THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES WHERE THE THINGS ARE,NOONE SEEM TO KNOW NOTHING WHEN ASKED.
