There is a wealth of maritime history in the Great Lakes region, and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum is there to offer you a chance to explore it!
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, this family friendly museum is where you can spend hours learning about the sailors, the shipbuilders, and submariners who changed the course of maritime history, AND you can have some great family fun as you do so!
Did we mention there's a completely restored WWII submarine too?
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum has a number of exhibits and galleries where you can explore the many facets of this rich history.
Step back to the 1840s and learn about shipping and shipbuilding were some of the first industries within the state of Wisconsin, and you can explore the streets of Manitowoc as they were 150 years ago!
You can see scale models, and half-hull models that tell the stories of Great Lakes sailing ships and freighters, and even view a shipwreck diorama of the Edmund Fitzgerald as she looks in the waters of Lake Superior.
There's also plenty of hands-on fun as kids play in the Children's Waterways Room, where children of all ages can launch boats onto a miniature Lake Superior, or navigate the waterfalls of the Wisconsin River!
Then of course you have the USS Cobia, the most intact WWII submarine in the entire nation, AND it's home to the oldest working radar in the world! Through a 45 minute guided tour you can learn all about life on the submarines with 79 other men, and discover how the submarine operates!
It's a wealth of fun as you explore the waters of the Great Lakes, and it's all at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum!
