We all know that Vermont is a great place to hit the slopes and try your hand and skiing or snowboarding, but what is the history of this popular sport?
Well, at the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum tells just that!
The Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum is located in the village of Stowe, and is actually situated in the Old Town Hall, which was built in 1818 and is on the National Register of Historic places.
Already your history lesson has begun, and you haven't even walked through the door yet!
The mission of the museum is to collect, preserve and celebrate Vermonts skiing history, and to do this, their collection is divided into seven areas, from clothing to equipment, mechanical equipment, and even fine art, to name a few.
Most of the material dates back to the 19th century, spanning though to present day, so you really gain an understanding of just where this sport came from.
Currently you'll find over 7750 items within the collection, displayed within historically in-depth exhibits that really showcase the stories.
Also at the Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum are changing exhibits that focus even deeper on a particular subject, and because these change you can plan your next visit around seeing something new.
Whether you have just come from the slopes, or you are gearing up to go and enjoy the skiing fun that New England offers, a visit to this charming museum is a great addition to any family day out in Vermont!
