There is something amazing about history when it comes to life - when you can see it, feel it and smell it. The USS Lexington in Corpus Christi is no exception!
This amazing WWII aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1943 and is an incredible place for kids to explore, and to learn about the history of the carrier and of the war.
Originally named USS Cabot (Kids can find out about the name change during their visit!), this carrier was de-comissioned in 1991 as one of the oldest working carriers in the USA.
The ship itself has now become a museum, so for kids to really learn about the history of the carrier and the war - WHILST on the ship is an incredible experience for them!
They can wander the galleys and corridors imagining what life would have been like during the war. Perhaps it would have been chaotic? Would there have been men scurrying about? What sounds would they have heard? Great to discuss with them as they wander round with their imagination!
To make your way around the USS Lexington, there are 5 self-guided tours you can take. This is the best way to cover the 100,000 square feet and ELEVEN decks! Yep! It's quite a ship!
As you go about your tour on the USS Lexington, there are very friendly "yellow shirt" volunteers which are there ready to answer any questions you may have.
The Visitor Center has a super fun flight simulator experience for just $5, and there is also a 3D Theater to really experience some of the action!
A fantastically eye opening experience for kids!
