About this activity

Tygart Lake State Park is all about the great outdoors, where families and kids can enjoy this cozy, quiet family day out that will sit among West Virginia's rolling hills and alongside the impressive 10-mile long, 1,750-acre Tygart Lake.

There of course are a host of fun activities that you can enjoy during your time at this West Virginia favorite. With the lake there, boating and fishing are popular activities, and also a great way to spend time together! For those adventurous family members, grab those hiking shoes because there are plenty of hiking trails to choose from - and be as adventurous as you want to be!

For something a bit different, try out geocaching! A novel way to spend time out with Mother Nature!

Make sure you visit during the summer, when a park naturalist provides FREE guided nature programs and recreation activities for everyone who visits! So if you have any questions about the park, or nature, then it's the perfect time to ask!

A golf course and a number of historical and popular attractions, including Pricketts Fort, Valley Falls, Philippi covered bridge and Fairmont State University, are nearby too, so if you did want to extend your trip to more than a day, take advantage of the parks lodge and cabins.

The great outdoors is waiting at Tygart Lake State Park and it's, well, great!
