The Toledo Firefighters' Museum is based in a vintage firehouse building, The Old Number 18, and is a great way for kids to learn all about those brave firefighters, and their history!
This Toledo based museum shows kids the 150 years of history and heroes, and is only five minutes from downtown Toledo!
The displays at the museum feature a whole host of vintage firefighting equipment, and other artifacts, so you can really feel the history come to life! The centrepiece is the "Neptune" from 1837, which is the first fire pumper in Toledo - pretty cool!
This once needed 20 men to operate, and could actually deliver 300 gallons of water per minute - now THAT is pretty incredible!
The history of Toledo Firefighters is displayed downstairs, offering an insight into the profession.
On the second floor the museum houses many hundreds of photos, scrap books and fire reports from years gone by.
Also on the upper floor is Jed's Bedroom, a recreated domestic environment where Fire Prevention Officers show the kids how to safely check for, handle and escape from a fire in the home.
Throughout the museum there are great things to see, including hundreds of antique fire toys, vintage uniforms, you can see the sleeping quarters and even see a Watchman's desk.
This attraction is free to all, but please do note the limited opening availability.
Great firefighting fun AND historic fun at the Toledo Firefighters Museum!
