Arizona is an AMAZING state - with some of the country's best wildlife and scenery. Lucky for you, there is 1,185 acres right in Glendale that protects this desert landscape, and it's waiting for you to explore it!
The Thunderbird Conservation Park is located in Hedgpeth Hills. Did you know these hills were actually named after an early homesteader in the area? Pretty cool history!
The park is a great place for family's to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. There are plenty of spots to grab a picnic and enjoy some family time in nature, or you can take to the 15 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, jogging, or even horseback riding.
If your kids just LOVE wildlife too, they might just be excited when they hear what is out there to be spotted!
A number of species call the area home, from the smaller creatures from the rock squirrel to the kangaroo rat, to larger animals including the Mountain Lion! Don't forget to look up, because there are a number of bird species in the area too. You might spot a Vulture, or a loon, or perhaps even owls or hummingbirds.
There are even wildlife viewing blinds located within the Thunderbird Conservation Park, and are accessible from the trails off Pinnacle Peak Road.
A great place to spend some time with binoculars!
So what better way to spend a family day out in Arizona than with some walking shoes, bottled water, a sense of adventure and a love of nature? Don't forget to breath in that beautiful desert air!
