Wildlife, nature, trails, exploring...yes please!
Wells Reserve at Laudholm is dedicated to advancing stewardship through science, conservation and education. So it's great for our environment!
They have 2,250 acres of protected land which you can explore and learn from as a family.
It's also a great way to learn and understand the conservation they do, as the numerous exhibits in the Main Coastal Ecology Center explain how the very busy researchers investigate the environments, salt, marshes, watersheds and wildlife to see how they are being influenced by other factors, and how they can protect them.
You can also learn about the stunning Maine coastal lowlands and how they have formed over the thousands of years, and how the people who lived there have influenced, and been influenced.
There are several miles of trails for those active families, from easy to moderate, where you can enjoy the coastline. They are open all year round, including winter where you can cross-country ski and snowshoe, but just be mindful they are not groomed in winter.
They have guided tours run by naturalists so you can really indulge in the learning experience, of the fun Discovery Program which is super fun for kids 6 - 12 where you take on your own self-guided trail with an activity backpack which has everything you need for a half day "investigation"
The reserve hold events throughout the year, even chamber concerts so you can enjoy music under the trees, and they have great school programs and summer camps for kids.
