There are any types of zoos across the USA, each with their own unique characteristics and experiences. The Teaching Zoo is just as unique, because it's maintained by the Santa Fe Colleges Zoo Animal Technology Program. So they are enhancing their career path, and allowing you to have a great day out with the animals!
The students are supervised by the professional staff of the Teaching Zoo, and they get hands-on experience in every aspect of wild animal care, from daily care to habitat construction and maintenance, and working with the public.
The Teaching Zoo is home to more than 75 different species of animals, from the domestic that you know and love, to the exotic that you may have never known existed before!
Kids can see those iconic Bald Eagles, to those cheeky Capuchin monkeys. Explore the wonders of the far reaches of the Earth with the Galapagos tortoises, or see the adorable Matschie's Tree Kangaroo play.
Have you ever heard of a caracal, or seen an armadillo up close?
All of these beautiful animals, along with the many other mammals, birds and reptiles are on display in a naturally shaded environment.
The Teaching Zoo also has a 1.4 mile trail through a wooded area that is a fun way to spend some time looking at wildlife. The trail is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, so everyone can visit!
A WILD day out for the family in Florida, where you don't need to travel the world to see these amazing creatures. Here, they have come to you!
