The National Museum of the Pacific War offers a chance for the family to discover the human story of WWII within the Pacific region, with over 55,000 sq ft of exhibit space, spread out over three galleries - and all this across 6 acres, right in the heart of Fredericksburg.
This museum is special, not only because it offers an insight into the real people behind the conflict - offering another unique, and important , perspective - but it's also the ONLY museum in the continental US solely dedicated to telling the story of WWII in the Pacific.
The National Museum of the Pacific War includes the George Bush Gallery where you can dive into the story of the Pacific War (note the entrance address change on their website), and the Admiral Nimitz Gallery (although closed for renovations until 2020) focusing on the life and career or Fleet Admiral Chester W Nimitz.
Also at the museum is the Plaza of Presidents, Veterans' Walk of Honor, and the beautiful Japanese Garden of Peace where you can enjoy respite from the occasional intensity in the exhibits, in this tranquil oasis for solace and reflection
Don't miss a visit to the Pacific Combat Zone either - a unique two-acre indoor/outdoor exhibit featuring the TBM Avenger, PT-309 and the Pacific Battlefield - one of the museum's most popular venues, as well as the Plaza of Presidents. The latter is a striking outdoor tribute to the American Presidents who served in the armed forces during WWII (Kids, do you know how many Presidents served?)
With events across the year too, the National Museum of the Pacific War is an invaluable learning experience for the whole family, offering insight into one of the most important and world-changing events in human history.
