Most people are familiar with the works of Mark Twain, but what about the man behind the words? Did you know that Mark Twain lived in Hartford for some time, and actually wrote some of his most famous books here?
The Mark Twain House is a great museum for kids to be introduced to this amazing man, or to learn more about his private side. The house itself is an amazing piece of work - Mark Twain (otherwise known as Samuel Clemens) moved to Hartford in 1871, and commissioned this house to be built in 1873. It was their dream house, and they had some of their happiest moments in this house.
Kids - you’ve heard of the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn haven’t you? That’s all Mark Twain!
The Mark Twain Museum Center was opened in 2003 in connection with the Mark Twain House, where all the families who visit can learn more about all things Mark Twain, including his family and legacy.
There is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the life of Mark Twain, as well as a rotating exhibition hall. To get a bit more insight, sit down and enjoy the mini-documentary on Twain.
Keep an eye out for rotating exhibits too, because they always have fascinating topics, and you wouldn't want to miss out - as well as super interesting events too, across the year.
So get ready to head off for a fascinating literary family day out!
