If you had to guess which of West Virginia's state forests was the oldest, what would you say? If you guessed Seneca State Forest - you'd be right!
Not only that, but Seneca State Forest is also the second largest in the state too, so it's pretty impressive and well worth a visit on a family day out!
Set in the rugged Pocahontas County, Seneca gives families a peaceful solitude for any day out, filled with nature, adventure, and calm. With 11,684 acres of lush woodlands, there are also plenty of opportunities to go exploring and really connect with nature!
There are 23 miles of winding trails perfect for hiking and biking, and of course Seneca Lake offers some much deserved fun too! Boating and fishing are popular too, with a 4 acre lake ideal for trout, bass and bluegill, especially in those summer months, as well as on Greenbrier River offering much loved family time.
If you want to extend your family day out, they have a campground ideal for that!
The lake and forest are named after the Indian tribe which once roamed the area, so kids can even learn a bit of history during your trip.
Seneca State Forest is also, perhaps, best known for its 65-foot tall fire tower, which provides incredible views of the forest and miles upon miles of surrounding woodlands. Don't miss out!
