The Sawtooth National Forest is an amazing place right in the heart of Idaho. With 2.1 million acres of public land ready to be explored, you certainly have a fun filled and FULL family day out ahead of you!
Most of the forest is situated in south central Idaho, which means so are the 1,100 lakes and over 3,000 miles of streams and rivers which you can enjoy! Try and spot all the native trout and salmon as they embark on their annual runs!
With a forest like this, the opportunities for recreation and family fun are pretty much unlimited! There are undeveloped, primitive settings like the Sawtooth Wilderness, to the much more developed sites like the Redfish Lake. There are also nearly 1,500 heritage sites recorded, which are great to explore and learn from. You never know what the kids will learn about the archaeology and history of the area!
Want to know some of the fun activities you can do at Sawtooth National Forest? Good, because we'd LOVE to tell you! With all those lakes, it would be a shame not to utilize them! There are boating facilities that you can enjoy, and get out onto the waters.
Want something a bit closer to the solid ground? Well, in addition to the many hiking trails, there are also horse facilities where you can enjoy some horseback riding with your own horses.
The Visitor Center is a great place to start your experience, and get some knowledge of the area and places to visit, and if you feel you want to spend more than a day here, maybe check out the campsites - make it a family weekend out!
So grab those hats, sunglasses, and sense of adventure, because the entire Sawtooth National Forest is just waiting to be explored by you!
