Located in the replicated 1854 City Hall and Waterworks Building, this fascinating museum houses thousands of historical artifacts within the many exhibits, showcasing Sacramento's vibrant history, with a focus on the great Gold Rush of 1849.

As you wander the exhibits, you can see the rich history come to life as you explore the stories of the people who lived in Sacramento County, and the events that shaped the future.
There are permanent and temporary exhibits within the museum, so you can always see something new on your next visit, plus re-visit those favorites.
There are give permanent exhibits within the Sacramento History Museum. Gold, Greed & Speculation outlines the beginning of the city's formation via the Gold Rush, and the struggles the citizens faced creating a new city.
The Gold Rush continues in the Coming to California exhibit, recounting the discovery of gold in the American River, and hear stories of those who risked their lives for a chance to strike it rich.
Kids can learn about newspaper production and job printing in the 19th century Historic Print Shop, and explore the many communities that have called the land home, from the Nisenan Indian culture, to the Victorian age, and their various modes of transportation.
Home and work life in the early 20th century is also showcased in the Agricultural Gallery, where you can see the original McCormick Reaper which revolutionized grain farming, and step foot in a recreated 1920s kitchen!
