About this activity

Are you ready to step back in time, and journey to a place that features some of the most significant traditional sites on all of the Hawaiian islands?

Then let's get ready to visit Pu'uhonua o Honaunau Historical Park! In this magical part of the country, the whole family can learn about the richness and depth of Hawaiian culture and history. Your journey will be taken by self-guided tours and you can go back in time as you explore all of the sites.

The ancient Royal Grounds were once reserved for the chief, and those in the area had to abide by certain rules such as no casting shadows on the chief! Pretty incredible! The grounds are still a sacred site, so feel the energy when you're there!

Fancy playing an ancient game? Why not try konane, a game that was enjoyed within ancient Hawaii. Did you know that King Kamehameha often beat opponents in one move? That's a high bar to beat!

During your time at Pu'uhonua Honaunau Historical Park, you can also really learn about the culture by interacting with Hawaiian cultural demonstrations. Kids can learn all about fishing, and weaving, and even carving! These trades and crafts dominated the lifestyle of the people who lived in the area, so try and imagine what life would have been like for them.

Don't miss the outdoor activities in the park too - after all, you're in Hawaii! There are picnics and fishing to be enjoyed, and even snorkelling in the crystal clear waters.

History and nature - all in paradise in this Hawaiian historical park!

Aloha!
