It's one thing to read about history in books, but it's another one to actually EXPERIENCE history - and at the Pioneer Museum Complex in Fredericksburg, that's exactly what you'll be doing!
Set on 3 acres, the Pioneer Museum Complex allows children (and the entire family!) to experience what life would have been like for the early German pioneers of Texas Hill County, way back in the 19th century.
You see, back in the 1840s, German communities were looking for a better life, and had heard Texas was a land of limitless opportunity. Risking everything, they conquered hurdle after hurdle, and finally made their home in Texas Hill County.
Today, the Pioneer Museum Complex tells their story through the hundreds of artifacts on display, across the 10 buildings - four of which are actually in their original spot from the early days of Fredericksburg!
Kids can really use those imaginations as they explore the kitchen within the log cabin where actual families (with kids their age!) would have spent evenings together, or the one-room schoolhouse - can you hear the sounds of the students asking questions, with the sound of the chalk on the board?
You can also explore a bath house, a barn, smokehouse, and Sunday house - all of which the artifacts and architecture help preserve stories of a time gone by.
The great thing about this historic Texas attraction, is that you can just take your time exploring the grounds, taking as little or as long as you like.
A great way to really SEE history come to life in Fredericksburg, so put down those history books kids, because we're going to LIVE it!
