Experience the Gullah/Geechee culture first hand at the Pin Point Heritage Museum in Savannah! This must-visiit open-air historic site celebrates the life, work and history of the Gullah/Geechee community that calls Pin Point home.
Pin Point Heritage Museum is located in the former A.S Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory, so already you're experiecing part of the history!
The Gullah/Geechee community was founded back in 1896, after the Civil War. Today, the former factory has been transformed into a fascinating educational center for families and visitors, where all who visit can authentically learn about the Gullah/Geechee culture straight from the residents who actually grew up in the very small, and very close-knit community!
As you expore the site, you can discover the unique ways of life, from daily activities and traditions, to religion, food and language.
It was actually for nearly an entire century that Pin Point was isolated, and self-sustained, and a Gullah/Geechee enclave (founded by first-generation freedman) was where life was deeply connected to the water.
Today, having re-opened as the Pin Point Heritage Museum, is a really fascinating day out in Savannah, where you can really understand and appreciate this unique group of people who called the area home.
