Pilot Mountain State Park features, of course, Pilot Mountain, This impressive landmark stands 2,000ft above ground, and was used as a navigational landmark for centuries! Today, it sits within the popular state park that offers a host of year round fun for the whole family!
The mountain segment, which includes the two pinnacles, contains most of the visitor facilities. The more primitive river section centers around the lazy, meandering Yadkin River.
For those hikers in the family, Pilot Mountain features miles of trails that takes you through the impressive natural surroundings. Keep an eye out for the wildlife too, you might just spot some!
If you want to head to the centerpiece of the park, a 6 and a half mile trail connects the Yadkin River Section to the mountain summit.
The extensive trail network also offers equestrians plenty of bridle trails, and even those river loving families can take on the many canoe trails along the river. The 165 mile trail follows the course of the river, and features 38 canoe access sites along the way. Some of the river is suitable for rafting too!
If you want to extend your adventure but staying overnight, or even longer, family camping is possible in the 49 site campground.
For those who want a little more adventure, rock climbing and ravelling area allowed on sections of the park's steep cliffs, as well the cliffs perched around the mountain's summit (which also offer amazing views!)
